How to participate
LA Referencia offers two ways to participate: taking part in the network’s governance and sustainability, and contributing scientific content to its collection.
Participating in governance and sustainability
Member countries shape LA Referencia’s governance and contribute to its sustainability by signing the Cooperation Agreement. This participation entails institutional commitments to sustain the regional infrastructure and take part in its decisions.
If your country is interested in joining, contact LA Referencia to learn about the process and arrange a dialogue with LA Referencia’s Executive Directorate and Board of Directors.
Contributing content to the collection
Repositories and other scientific information sources can participate through metadata harvesting. Inclusion requires reviewing interoperability and information quality, and coordinating with the national node or LA Referencia, as appropriate.
If your institution is located in a member country, consult the national node. If there is no national node yet, contact LA Referencia to explore opportunities for inclusion.
How we are expanding the collection
Through the IOI project, LA Referencia is expanding its coverage by strengthening existing nodes and identifying repositories in countries that are not yet members of the network. Working with the responsible institutions, it reviews interoperability conditions and metadata quality to prepare their gradual inclusion, including through virtual nodes where a national node does not yet exist.
This cooperation helps make more scientific output visible and builds relationships that may support future institutional participation in the network.
What does each pathway involve?
Having content harvested does not in itself confer member country status or participation in governance. Institutional membership is formalized through the Cooperation Agreement.
To make a research output visible, deposit it in your institution’s repository. LA Referencia harvests metadata from participating sources; deposits are made in the source repositories.
