LA Referencia launches new version of the search platform

LA Referencia launches the new version of the aggregator of scientific publications, with features that offer added value to this service: end users can now search through the thousands of integrated records in a multi-language environment with simple navigation routes and a flexible interface that can be viewed on mobile devices.
About 800 thousand documents are integrated into this new version of LA Referencia. This platform collect, validate, aggregate and index Open Access scientific contents including scientific articles, doctoral and master theses, dissertations and technical reports from hundreds of repositories in nine Latin American countries that are members of the regional initiative.
The launch coincides with the two years of the Declaration of Buenos Aires, signed in November 2012 by the nine countries as a political commitment to the development of actions on the area of Open Access and Institutional Repositories. This Agreement laid the foundation for developing common strategies that aimed to the construction of the Latin American collector of scientific production, composed by the national nodes of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
The platform of scientific publications of LA Referencia began as a pilot and has been transformed into a service, thanks to organizational and technical agreements among the associates. To facilitate this proposal, each country has been managing a centralized repository infrastructure, which in turn scales to the regional platform where all items can be searched.
This new version has allowed to significantly improve harvest time; progress has been made in the provision of tools to generate diagnoses of national validations and transformations; new alternatives to generate statistics have been refined, and above all, the platform has been adapted to be used by national nodes.
