President of LA Referencia presents the network objectives at the Ibero-American Meeting of Authorities of Science, Technology and Innovation
The activities carried out by LA Referencia, the regional repository network of Latin America, in favor of open access and the objectives for the next years were presented during the 6 and 7 of October, in the framework of the Second Ibero-American Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities of Science, Technology and Innovation, held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
Patricia Muñoz, President of LA Referencia, described the milestones that marked the development and services of this initiative. Muñoz also highlighted the work of internationalization, by means of the collaboration with OpenAIRE and COAR, with the establishment of common metadata guidelines. These actions are oriented towards "an articulation of policies and actions in open science, in order to create an open ecosystem of scientific information as a public good in the region, led by science and technology agencies."
The meeting defined strategic projects and agendas to strengthen cooperation in Ibero-American policies in science, technology and innovation as part of the preparatory activities for the XXV Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held 28 and 29 October 2016, also in the city of Cartagena.
As a result of the meeting, the authorities of S&T signed the "Cartagena Declaration", a document that reiterated "the commitment to continue working on the development of a common agenda on Science, Technology and Innovation in Latin America, in order to strengthen multilateral spaces, promote policies, programs and actions that help to achieve economic, social, inclusive and sustainable development”.
The Second Ibero-American Meeting was led by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation in Colombia - COLCIENCIAS with the support of the Secretaría General Iberoamericana - Segib and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia.
