| Sumario: | This article reflects on the confessionals of the 18th century in Mayan languages ??of the state of Chiapas, Mexico, highlighting the articulation of the importance of wildlife in the daily life of Mesoamerican peoples, and its multiple ways in which the processes of evangelization failed to eradicate such conceptions. In this way, an analysis of the indoctrination practices to which the populations of the Comitecos valleys were subjected is elaborated; This historical exercise was elaborated, on the one hand, through the study of historical sources and, on the other, the ethnographic documentation of cultural practices associated with the conceptions of Mesoamerican cosmogony. The methodology focused on researching historical sources and ethnographic documentation based on fieldwork in Tojolabal localities, with whom, in open dialogue, multiple conceptions about fauna and its representations in the collective imagination were identified. |
